Full grain vegetable tanned leather

What is full grain leather?

The flower is the structure of the dermis where the hairs are located, therefore the top of the skin. This is the densest part of the skin. Full grain leather is logically one which, once tanned, has not undergone any other alteration. It is therefore used in its entire thickness and exposed on the flower side. It is the noblest treatment that can be applied to skin.

Vegetable tanned leather

Tanning is a mandatory step to transform hides into leather. Tannins make the skins rot-proof, and give them flexibility or rigidity depending on the desired result.

Vegetable tanning is an ancestral and natural technique, in which plants such as wood, bark, berries or even leaves are used to tan hides, because they naturally contain tannins. Our ancestors therefore immersed the skins in baths filled with plants for several months or years. The sludge obtained was entirely biodegradable, as was the leather, in natural or dark tones.

The beauty of vegetable-tanned leather is that it develops a patina over time.
Like a vintage, time only enhances it.

Buttero leather from the Conceria Walpier tannery

After multiple tests and research in my quest for exceptional vegetable leather, my choice fell on the excellent Buttero leather tanned by "Conceria Walpier", based in Tuscany, Italy.
It is a very high quality full grain leather, firm and durable.
Eager to create durable, quality products, I had to choose exceptional leather, able to withstand the ravages of time.
